Jewish Home at Rockleigh Awarded 5-Star Status

The Jewish Home at Rockleigh has been awarded five stars by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This is the highest rating a nursing home can receive and is a very useful guide for consumers who are evaluating a nursing home for family members.

“The Five-Star Quality Rating System was created to help consumers, their families and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily and identify areas about which… to ask questions,” notes medicare.gov. Nursing home ratings are taken from three sources of data – health inspections, staffing, and quality measures. This gives you information about the care individual nursing homes offer.

The health inspection process – conducted by a trained team of inspectors – looks at all major aspects of care in a nursing home (about 180 different items). Then the ratings look at the ratio of number of staff compared to number of residents, and indicate how many of the staff are trained nurses. When it comes to quality measures, these “provide an… in-depth look at how well each nursing home performsn on ten important aspects of care. For example, these measures show how well the nursing home helps people keep their ability to dress and eat, or how well the nursing home prevents and treats skin ulcers,” according to medicare.gov.

“This is the ultimate level that nursing homes want to strive for. In the eyes of CMS, this is the highest possible feedback that agencies and professionals can get in skilled nursing facilities,” said JHR’s Executive Vice President, Chuck Berkowitz. “I was to congratulate the staff of JHR. This is a reflection of their efforts. The Board of Directors and I are pleased that they received the recognition they so deserve.”
