The Jewish Home at Rockleigh recently launched a new program – Employee of the Month. This program, which aims to recognize outstanding and caring employees, has been made possible through an endowment established by Debbie and Stuart Himmelfarb, residents of Tenafly, in memory of Bella and Martin Himmelfarb. Asked why they chose to fund this particular program, Stuart said it was in response to “how well my mother was cared for when she was at Rockleigh.”
A ballot box is set up in JHR’s lobby so that people – including supervisors, co-workers, residents and families – can make their nominations. A selection committee, made up of five to seven staff members representing various departments at JHR, considered all those nominated and chose the first candidate for June – Freddie Madrid, a bus driver for the Gallen Adult Day Health Care Center. A resident of Englewood, NJ, he also delivers kosher Meals-On-Wheels prepared at JHR to various distribution centers in the area.
Gerald Augustin, a housekeeping and laundry supervisor and a resident of Nyack, NY, was named EOM for July. Employed at JHR since May 2004, he was promoted from his original job as a porter.
Rupert Tiangco, an LPN/charge nurse, is the winner for August. A resident of Dumont, he has been employed at JHR since February 2007.
Honorees receive a letter of recognition, certificate of appreciation, $50 gift card, and complimentary meals for their honorary month. In addition, the winner’s photo is displayed in a public area for the month and the winner’s name is added to the EOM plaque.
