Bus for Recreation

The Jewish Home has been the recipient of volunteerism for over 70 years. As anyone close to the Home knows, our Residents have always led the way. They spent a good part of their lives as volunteers in their own communities. Now, as Residents, they continue to volunteer at JHR. They sell raffles and crafts which they helped to create during our annual Holiday Craft Fair and our Mother’s Day Garden Sale Fundraisers. Whenever they are asked one can find our Resident volunteers helping the development office get out a mailing. They fully understand that this is a way that they can help the Jewish Home and all of the other Residents here.

At a recent Resident Council Meeting, the Residents asked if we could increase the number of outside day trips which are offered. We indicated that this is a real possibility if we could get access to the vehicles of the Jewish Home Adult Day Healthcare more often. Unfortunately, the success and growth of that program has put an unusual burden on their buses. The Resident’s answer was simple and firm: “Let’s undertake the task of acquiring a bus for the use of the Residents of the Jewish Home at Rockleigh”. As a result, our Residents are now moving forward and are fundraising for a bus dedicated to the Residents of the Jewish Home.

As you know, outdoor activities and outings are of great benefit to the Residents who live at the Jewish Home at Rockleigh. During the past 6 years, our residents have enjoyed outings to local parks and farms, attended theater productions, visited art centers, dined out at local restaurants and enjoyed shopping expeditions to nearby malls and specialty stores. The availability of a dedicated bus will allow for more trips and just as important, for more residents to partake of these places of interest.

Our Residents are asking for your help to achieve this goal. A few members of our extended family have already responded positively and have contributed and the Residents will be sponsoring a special raffle in February to help raise money for this new acquisition. They would welcome voluntary contributions in any amount toward its purchase.

We would like to encourage you to reflect on the fun and freedom these outings bring to our Residents and we join them in asking for your support with this newest fundraising endeavor. Thank you!
