JHAL Hosts Area Kick-Off Event for Alzheimer’s Association

Iris Rosendahl, Public Relations Coordinator

The Alzheimer’s Association Greater New Jersey Chapter held its kick off planning session for its Northern Regional Memory Walk on Tuesday, May 6 at the Jewish Home Assisted Living, Kaplen Family Senior Residence, in River Vale.

The program featured a presentation by Elaine Winters, Associate Director of the Northern Regional Office of Greater New Jersey Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association in Oradell, NJ. One of the goals of the meeting was to rev up the enthusiasm of the attendees and focus on ways to raise money and involve members of the community early in the preliminary planning stages. The Association hopes local individuals and organizations will help recruit individual walkers and teams to participate in the event as well as act as sponsors for the three-mile walk in October. In addition, it hopes that businesses in the community will donate gifts that can be raffled off or given away that day to participants.

The Memory Walk will take place on Sunday, October 26 in Van Saun Park, Paramus. It will be a day filled with music, fun and laughter while at the same time helping local families touched by Alzheimer’s Disease. The Alzheimer’s Association, which provides vital support to those affected by AD through a 24-hour, seven day-a-week HelpLine, the SafeReturn Program, Support Groups, Educational Training Seminars, and Respite Care Financial Assistance program, uses this walk as a major fundraising event. In addition to the event at Van Saun Park, other walks are scheduled in Princeton and Point Pleasant Beach in the fall.

For further information about participating or sponsoring the Memory Walk, contact Lauren Levant, JHAL Executive Director, at 201-666-2370.
